It certainly is hard to believe that summer is over for us. I would have to say that this was definitely our best summer yet - we had A LOT of fun! The summer started off with a few weeks of camp for J&C, which they thoroughly enjoyed. The camp offered a variety of different crafts and activities. They absolutely loved "Up with the Arts" and "Summer Fun Festival."
Our first summer vacation brought us to Gatlinburg, TN for a family reunion. We had a great time visiting with the extended family from MS. It was great to see all of them. While visiting, we had the opportunity to see the Aquarium, ride the chair lift and gondola, play miniature golf, and ride around a go-kart Nascar track.
The second part of our summer vacation sent us to Ocean City, MD with the Huff family. We had a great weekend with our great friends where the kids learned the basics of boogy boarding and 'catching waves'. They absolutely had a blast with these boards. As always with the Huffs, we had the opportunity to share in a lot of laughs, drinks, and good times.
Mid-summer we enrolled J&C for two weeks of swim lessons, in which they did very well. Had we really thought about it, we would have had Lauren in lessons as well, but decided to wait another year. Although, she progressed very well this summer on her own as well. Luckily, we have kids who love the water.
The next leg of our summer vacation was spent in Vermont. Aside from John attending his 20th high school reunion, we spent the majority of the time visiting with John's family and relaxing. It was great to see everyone as usual, and best of all, watching Jack and Caroline play with their cousins, Nicholas and Brenna. They played constantly during our visit and had such a great time with eachother. It was really nice to watch them bond and make some memories. Can't wait to see them again in December.
Lastly, our last hurrah for the summer was a camping trip to Sherando Lake with some friends from the neighborhood. Sherando Lake is located just west of Charlottesville and nestled in the Washington and Jefferson National Forest. We had a great time and really liked the park and will most likely continue going there many more times. It was a lot of fun.
All in all, I would say that the summer of 2010 was a great summer and we made tons of memories which I hope the kids will look back on and remember fondly. As Stacey and I sit here drinking a glass of wine, we can raise our glasses and toast to good times, good health, family and the many blessings of life.
J&C are off to the first day of SECOND grade tomorrow. More about that tomorrow....
