The Great Sunflower Project

So, a neighbor of mine told me about this great project that our local utility company is sponsoring and asking customers to participate in. It's called The Great Sunflower Project. The purpose of this project is help track, monitor and understand the challenges that bees are currently facing. I am sure many of you have heard about the Bee Colony Collapse Disorder. Although there currently is NO concrete evidence stating what the one root cause is (i.e. disease strain, environmental, weather conditions, etc.), our bees are being affected somehow.

By signing up to participate, we will receive free sunflower seeds to plant. At the beginning and end of each month throughout the summer, we will be required to monitor how long it takes 5 bees to visit the sunflowers to pollinate. We then record our data online. There are currently over 26,000 people who have signed up to participate. It's just one small way we hope to help save our bees. If you are interested, please go to www.greatsunflower.org to sign up and get your free sunflower seeds.
