Nature Rocks

A former colleague of mine from my D&R days has launched a new campaign to inspire parents to reconnect their families to nature. It's called "Nature Rocks" - Check it out at www.naturerocks.org

Spending family time outside is easy, fun and free. A growing body of scientific research shows that kids who do spend time outside are happier, healthier and smarter. Even though this seems like a no brainer - kids today are spending much less time outside than we did when we were children.

The Nature Rocks website has posted over 100 fun, easy, inexpensive, and interesting activities. They also have got a handy "find nature" feature - just enter your zip code and are quickly provided with local details on everything from parks to forests and more, plus locations offering nature tours, classes and even gear. You can even join them on Facebook where you can become a fan.

My colleague lauched this campaign in an effort to make nature an important part of family life in America again. If we ensure that kids of this era have personal experience spending time outside in nature - the air we breathe, the water we drink and the beautiful places we treasure will be preserved for generations to come. This matters even if you're not a parent.

John, awesome, thanks. I passed this info along to my friend Jessica who has a very popular blog in our area www.aparentinsilverspring.com. She posts items going on in the area and shares them. Check it out some time.
