Green Your Routine

If anyone out there watches the TODAY show, you may have seen that they have been doing GREEN WEEK and promoting ways for you to go green. Today's tip, "Say NO to Paper!". Every year Americans use more than 67 million tons of paper. In addition, every year each American household receives an average of 1.5 tree's growth of bulk mail advertising — commonly known as "junk mail." Recycling 13,600 tons of paper accounts for the saving of 231,200 trees, 44,880 cubic yards of landfill space and 95,200,000 million gallons of water. Here are a few tips you can do:

1. ATM and GAS RECEIPTS: Do you really need to print out that ATM or GAS receipt? When given the option, click "NO". So, choose not to print receipts and check your bank account online or update your bank book regularly to ensure that there is no discrepancy.

2. GET RID OF YOUR MONTHLY STATEMENTS: Many credit cards and other bill companies offer its customers to pay bills online. Rather than getting your monthly statements in the mail, opt to receive your bill via email.

3. GET RID OF UNWANTED JUNK MAIL: Do you find yourself getting tons of unwanted junk mail?! Simply call the catalog company and ask to be removed from their mailing list. Then recycle the magazine.

I'm doing better than I thought - already do these 3 things - bank and pay bills online and never get receipts at the atm or gas stations! I try to stop the junk mail - works for a while and then a whole new round of it arrives. Oh well, I'll keep trying! Thanks for the tips.
